October 7, 2009 – Orbit Energy Joins Major U.S. Firms in Pushing the Senate for a Climate Bill

 

On October 7, 2009, Orbit Energy’s CEO, Anwar Shareef, joined a group of representatives from more than 150 major U.S. firms in Washington for closed-door meetings with key senators and top members of President Obama’s energy team.  Anwar Shareef was invited to participate in this effort organized by the We Can Lead coalition, Clean Economy Network, Inc., and Ceres, the largest group of investors and environmental and public interest organizations in North America .  Participants included executives from Nike, Exelon, Pacific Gas and Electric, and General Electric.  The focus of these meetings was to encourage the Senate to pass a comprehensive energy and climate bill this year that will cap greenhouse gas emission, jump-start the U.S. clean-tech sector, create U.S. jobs, and put the U.S. in a technology leadership role

 

Mr. Shareef was also part of small group that visited the Whitehouse.  Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, Steven Chu, Secretary of Energy, Gary Locke, Secretary of Interior, and Carol Browner, Obama’s chief energy and climate policy coordinator addressed the group.  Leader of President Obama’s energy team presented the administration’s vision for a climate action and energy bill and sought support from the business community to push the legislation.

Subsequent to the visit, Mr. Shareef was selected to participate in a small group of renewable energy business owners to meet with Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior and Steven Chu, Secretary of Energy in Raleigh , NC .  The meeting was to discuss the administration’s plan for the climate action and energy bill, as well as seeking support from the business community to pass this legislation.   U.S. congressmen David Price, Bob Etheridge, and G.K. Butterworth were also in attendance
